Have you had layers of dirt or grime on your vehicle so thick that only a run through a car wash can return it to shine and luster? 

I remember times when this was the case for me. 

What color was the car? I can still see the water, streaming with bubbles to reveal that it was black and not the light grey, as it appeared with all those layers of dust. 

There were other cars that turned from pink to red, spotted to all one color, and even gray and white striped to all white with a good washing.  

Perhaps you have seen this happen to your cars.  

There have also been moments when I have seen other cars or trucks in my realm with dust and mud covering the windows, tires and everything in between. 

How is it that even the floor mats inside a car can be filled with mud, even after you think all the grime has been scraped off every bit of yourself? 

That is the mystery at a car wash.

That is the mystery and how even an interior of any vehicle needs to be cleaned at a car wash. 

It’s time to see how this happened over a few years. 

As a young driver, I first learned that a clean car came with a basin, a hose and a rag. 

Remembering to add some soap and perhaps another scrubber was the next good step. 

Here’s where it gets fun! 

The one thing you had to have to make it all come together was music playing during the car scrubbing. 

How about a song about a car wash to help it go with a swing?

Changes to it also came as the rag was traded out for machines. 

A hose was traded for automatic sprayers and a basin was traded for a big bay.

Then I remember that one thing stayed the same. 

Music stayed as the cars returned to a shine. 

Finding a rhythm with all the ways the colors returned was joyful. 

I did add one more thing to the shine after that first black car. One more person who loved to watch the car being washed and listen to the music was brought with me. 

He became part of why I washed the car.

The point of washing a car was to find more ways to live, create more dust on adventures in our everyday life and to sing at the top of our lungs. 

Here’s when I discovered that the rag I used in the beginning was also good for another thing. 

At first, it was a surprising part that I learned until I watched what was happening. 

The rag was used with the person who loved being in the car wash.

The rag that I had used to first clean the car started to be used with the person who loved being in the car wash. 

Imagine the fun for him to now be the one to use the soapy water to bring the shine not only to the car but to life! 

The smiles that came with him were marvelous and stayed with us long after the original colors were back. 

It was the joy of being just another day and yet is etched into my soul like the dust that I still find. 

Even after a deep cleaning. It seems to me that a car wash was meant to come after an adventure then.

It’s also what I now know about being on an adventure that can bring twists and turns along the way. 

Just like a rag that is being used to bring out the shine, the adventures I’ve been on with the person with me have been numerous.
