Summer Mode of Wonder #45

Summer Mode

This is how it goes every year.

The school year comes to an end, and I go into summer mode.

It is time to sit on the back porch, drink some lemonade, finish up the projects and read that pile of books I started over the winter.

Can you feel the sizzling heat soak into your bones as you join me under the rainbow umbrella?

I even have summer cups that remind me of the fun that will be had all season long.

Green grass.

Cool shade.

Swimming.

Fireflies, barefoot and long summer days.

This is what I long for every year. Now is the time to use my energy well.

Calmer, more relaxed mode

I gear down and go on into a calmer, more relaxed mode.

Observing and learning at the same time.

Is there a project that needs to be done now that times seems to slow down?

The answer is always yes.  Having time to dig a bit deeper into creativity and creation is how I can use some of my energy.

At home and at work.

There is something about having chunks of time to think, plan and then do what needs to be done that also brings more energy to me.

I can also now attend that conference or plan the daylong meeting with other professionals.

Perfect timing now that the teams I support are out of school and students are home for the summer.

Wait. Can I reverse that?

What happened to sitting back and drinking lemonade? Do you wonder where that went?

Oh that.

Truth is I don’t get my summers off anymore so there is one more piece to this time of year that helps me enjoy the day to day and also get things done.

The promise

With the promise of calmer moments and ice cold lemonade.

Long days full of sunlight.

Light that bounces off everything!

It even seems to shimmer with memories as the temperature climbs higher.

Time spent in the lake, pool or sprinkler.

Arts in the park and bouncing boat rides.

Movies with popcorn and, yes, lemonade.

Memories, and also time to create new adventures as the projects are planned with finesse and then set aside to do what summer is meant for.

Fun!

We all need a fun adventure to bring in more energy. There is a reason to add in time to wonder about the world around us.

At the pool, the park or on top of the mountain.

What’s next?

My truth

Knowing my truth.

Doing this now is part of the everyday adventure.

Creating fun in full summer mode intact is the quest.

It’s like I am running up a mountain.

It is a trick at times because I am also looking around enjoying the scenery, paying attention to the road and also looking ahead to when I get to go downhill.

It’s when the downhill section comes that more relaxation is here.

M’hm.

The deeper dive into projects is the uphill mountain run and then relaxing at the end of the day is the downhill section.

C’mon.

Take a moment to wonder about the world around you.

Are there modes you go into for the summer?

Do you add new golden moments each year with a list to check them off, ones that are more important than the year before?

There is much to do, my friends.

What does your summer look like?

Let’s drink lemonade when it’s time to relax. I’ll be on the patio with my cup of words to remind me of the important ways to wonder.
