Know Where we Stand #160

Know Where We Stand

Every once in a while, I get the person near me to spend some time being mindful.

Recently we paused during the day.

It was time to know where we stand together.

Take a look up and then see what there is to see.

Was there more to pay attention to as we glanced here and there?

This time we were smiling and then our eyes noticed one more thing.

There they are our feet!

What you see here in the impromptu moment as we captured another reason to grin with each other.

One from each of us coming together in a moment of looking at all the angles around us.

Our toes were suddenly the center of our attention as we had this thought.

We know where we stand.

We know where we stand.

This has come through some of the experiences of life.

Let’s go through a few of them.

When I was younger, I thought I knew what life was going to look like.

Imagine being a young child, viewing the years ahead and knowing what is coming.

That’s what I did, and I’ll tell you it was fun!

This was going to happen when I was a bit older.

I knew where I stood.

100%.

It was all planned out.

A few things did go as planned and then new perspectives came.

What’s a girl to do except to go with the flow.

I did love to become like the water so that is what I did.

Eventually.

What I learned in that beginning phase of life is what brought me the ability to become mindful.

It is where I learned to see what was in front of me and stay in that space.

Staying present with the joy that was with us, be with the people right around me and look up for what that could include next.

Part of this became wondering if I could become mindful all day by becoming aware of how I did one thing.

I learned how to do yoga and noticed my breath as I ran around with a young child, played and cleaned.

One change became a lifetime of awareness.

It is still a part of how I know where I stand.

It still is a part of how I know where I stand.

Maybe you’ve had a couple experiences come to you.

Do you know where you stand?

Pause here with me and perhaps notice your feet.

Are they comfy, tucked under your chair, or feeling like it’s time for a walk?

Consider it for this moment.

We are going to bounce ahead to where we started.

Here is what I now know.

I became grateful that we knew where we stood.

While I noticed our feet coming together, I became grateful that we knew where we stood.

Time has taught me many things.

Being adaptable like a chameleon is one more of the things that being mindful has brought me.

Looking up where my feet stand each day has become part of what I do naturally with the people in my space.

Doing it with the one who brings a smile is marvelous.

These three things are also a part of who I will always be as a part of our family.

Continue thinking about where you stand.
